In conjunction with a new round of promotions and focusing in on what makes them a band, I gave the Busted Creek guys a hand with redesigning their site. The new layout puts a stronger emphasis on their music and their inspirations, and brings out the subtleties in Chad Miller’s writing. The theme (The Last Fall) was originally done by Mujtaba and posted on the WP Themes site, but the end product no where near resembles the basic template.

This project forced me to learn some of the finer points of CSS, as the original author had no intention of hand-holding any would-be editors. It really was an enjoyable experience and one I look forward to with both Busted Creek and others in the future.

Also accompanying their relaunch is a new song / video featuring their acoustic song “Down By the River”. I’d invite you to check it out below!

As part of the curriculum of the Recording Arts program at IU each student must complete at least three semesters of a multi-track recording class. During the fall of last year I was able to work with a number of individuals, including Landon Peck whose work can be heard all over this site. But on top of that, I was fortunate enough to record what would eventually become the band Busted Creek. Their style is best described as singer-songwriter meets rock and roll. You can take a listen to their song “Sonny” (not my mix) below.

As part of putting together a band and getting the name out, a website can be a crucial tool to expose your music to venue owners and potential fans. Naturally, I volunteered to take on the project and develop the site. The experience has been extremely helpful on many fronts. Creating a banner allowed me to hone my Photoshop skills and revisit techniques I had not touched since I was active in a counter-strike community with heavy forum activity, and thus the need for fancy signatures. Hacking through the very well formatted Wordpress theme also reminded me of my love for hand coding. Digging through PHP and CSS is a real treat for me, as I don’t currently have the skillset to do full on PHP development, or really any fancy CSS tricks for that matter. I’d invite you to check out the site, as well as the rest of their music, and maybe even sign up for the mailing list! Their site can be found at www.bustedcreekmusic.com

Though this, I’ve tried to think of how web development can apply to studying audio. And as luck would have it the director of the program (Konrad Strauss) is in the process of writing a grant to implement a CMS for the audio program and the school of music. As far as I can tell the project is still very much in the beginning stages, but nonetheless it would be a wonderful opportunity to get in on the ground floor of something like this.
