Comcast Sucks.

My service here in Bloomington has recently just been switched over to Comcast. For a bit of history, I went approximately 6 months without any issue; my connection was constant and fast. The only problem I ever had was when I was downloading 8.5 gigs of Heroes and forgot to cap my upload. They didn’t care for that too much.

However, in the past three weeks, I’ve had two outages of at least 6 hours since Comcast has taken over. I’m not sure what exactly the problem is. There shouldn’t be any hardware changes. As far as I know they literally just took over what Insight had been doing. This most current outage has been going for approximately 16 hours. Sweet! Let’s break down the problems I have with Comcast.

Comcast Blows

First and foremost, they require that you log in to their site to view the Network Status page. Even before this they’ve gone wrong. Comcast has two different sites. Comcast.com and Comcast.net. Comcast.com seems to be their marketing / billing site. Comcast.net apparently hosts webmail and “help”. Help is used loosely. The accounts for these two sites are mutually exclusive for whatever reason. So the account I have on Comcast.com to pay my bill will not work at Comcast.net to log in and see the network status.

I don’t have my original comcast.net login and password. The guy who set up my account made it some stupid-ass name with a default password, and I have no idea what they are. I’ve attempted on many occasions to log in to “Live Help” and solve this issue. But their site never works.

What can you do Comcast? First and foremost, integrate, integrate, integrate. You don’t need two sites to do your business!! You can squat on Comcast.net for all I care. Just put it all on one damn site, and stop linking from one to the other. No one does business this way!! Sub.Do.Mains.

Next, once you have your sites integrated, make sure all of your .ASP code actually works. I had to refresh and restart my browser multiple times to get any of that to work. Which reminds me. You’re a NATIONAL company serving internet to users on MULTIPLE PLATFORMS. Wouldn’t you think that if your job is to send internet to all kinds of people that your own site would be compatible with more than IE7, Firefox, and (kind of) Safari? I’ve used all of them, and none of them work like I want them to. So I’ve settled on Camino. You won’t let me even attempt to run or access some of your pages. Seriously. Spend another couple of days, and get support for, I dont know, Safari (full on support), Camino, Opera, and any other open source browser that is better than what M$ and Apple give you.

So please Comcast, give me my username and password. Or just fix my connection. KTHXBAI!

UPDATE: So I found out exactly what my problem was. Which can be seen in the picture below. And for the frustration I had with the Comcast site, I’m thoroughly very amused that a service rep actually made an account and posted a comment on my site. My issues with their site still stand, but I guess that’s being addressed. Cool.

Epic Fail
